I remember when I was little, we were the only house on our street that had big black bins in the garden filled full of bottles and cans which we’d take to recycling points when they were full. I also remember a rather unsuccessful attempt by my Dad to recycle our shower water into water we could use on the garden. And, at the time I was slightly embarrassed by the massive blue tarpaulin bag my parents use to take to the supermarket to put all our food in! By no means were we eco warriors, but it was a start and in the last couple of years I have tried to make more changes in order to be kinder to the planet.
My interest in natural and organic body care came about whilst researching sustainable packaging. At the time I was looking at ways packaging could be made more efficient and have as little environmental impact as possible. I discovered some packaging made from egg crate carton with seeds embedded in and loved the idea that this packaging would have an end result – to become a new product of it’s own. The company that made this packaging sold a range of natural and ethical body care products and this got me reading about the ingredients used in products we put on our skin everyday.
So I started to look to replace the products I was using at the time with natural and organic alternatives. I got frustrated when I bought a ‘natural and pure’ product, only to get home and find out it contained a micron of a certain herb! Researching ingredients was no easy task either because one website said an ingredient was fine, another said don’t touch it with a barge pole. I couldn’t go to one place and find out everything I needed to. After a while I got better at picking out the right products and decoding the ingredients and so anderra was born. My aim is to provide you all the information you need to find products that are truly natural and organic.
Its not all consumer advice though. We need to get back in our gardens and use the ingredients growing around us to create our own natural remedies and to help you do that, this site also contains recipes and tips.
anderra is made from ponderra (balance), terra (Earth and land) and animo (nature).
