Green People Minty Cool Toothpaste

June 3, 2008

Green People Minty Cool Toothpaste is made from 100% natural ingredients and contains no artificial colours, flavours, preservaties, sweetners, fluoride, triclosan, sorbitol, pthalates, petrochemicals or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.

I decided to try a natural toothpaste for a couple of reasons. The first was that I wanted to find one that didn’t contain SLS. The second was that I noticed the statement “do not swallow” on the side of my regular tube of toothpaste, and considering I use it in my mouth twice a day everyday I thought it could be good to find something natural. So I looked around online and found Green People’s Minty Cool toothpaste.

I have to admit that I was a bit reluctant to put this in my mouth after I had seen that the first ingredient was chalk as I envisaged my mouth being full of gritty paste. But, I was pleasantly surprised. The paste is very smooth, slightly less ‘stiff’ than regular toothpaste and off-white in colour.

After reading all of the things this product doesn’t contain, I was wondering how it actually worked. The Green People website states:

  • Calcium carbonate (chalk) and vitamin C for cleaning properties
  • Peppermint essential oil and Myrrh resin for antibacterial and anti-microbial action

No SLS, means no foam. It took me a little while to get use to not having a mouth full of foam when I brushed my teeth. Instead of foaming up, the paste turns into a silky watery substance – meaning you have to work a bit harder to avoid dribbling :)

This toothpaste contains natural peppermint oil and tastes great; it left my mouth feeling very clean, refreshed and minty. I was using up my regular toothpaste at the same time as starting this one and it tasted oddly sweet in comparison to the Green People toothpaste.

When I first started using this I was unsure if it would work as well as my usual toothpaste but I had a dentist appointment a couple of months ago and was given the thumbs up on my dental hygiene, so I can happily say it works!

The only fault I can find with this product is that it doesn’t come in a bigger tubes, so I got through my tube quite quickly.

The packaging for this product has not been air-freighted.

  • Pros: Tastes great, no synthetic ingredients
  • Cons: The tube is quite small
