Lavera Neutral Suncream SPF40
June 3, 2008
Lavera’s SPF40 suncream is 100% natural and contains no mineral oil, petrolatum, waxes, alcohol, parabens or fragrance. It’s sun blocking ingredient is titanium dioxide and forms a physical barrier between your skin and the sun.
How does it work?
Natural sun cream works differently from many chemical based sun creams you can buy. Once you have applied a chemical based suncream you usually have to wait a small period of time before exposing your skin to the sun. This is because the particles need that time to disperse in order to absorb the UV rays. Lavera natural sun cream works differently because it’s sun reflecting ingredient is titanium dioxide. Instead of absorbing the UV rays, it reflects them like a mirror (providing a physical barrier between your skin and UV rays) – which is why you are protected immediately after application. There were a few factors that made me buy this suncream over a high street brand.
- Natural sun protection free from chemicals
- I burn very easily so I need a high SPF
- It’s waterproof
- Instant UVA and UVB protection
When this suncream arrived, I was a bit suprised at the size of the bottle; which was quite small compared to the usual sizes of suncream bottles. Having said that, I really didn’t need to put huge amounts on to generously cover my skin.
The texture is thick, creamy and was sometimes be a bit difficult to rub in. I found that once it had been on my skin for a short time and warmed up, it was much easier to spread around. It did leave my skin looking a little bit paler (areas like my arms where there are small hairs) and oily after application and the shine was most noticeable on my face but disappeared once the cream had soaked in a bit. I think this could be because it contains reflecting particles instead of nanoparticles and it’s a high SPF. I find even non natural high SPF’s can be quite thick and leave me looking a bit pale.
Lavera suncream didn’t leave any yellow marks on white clothes but I found that if I was wearing black, it would leave a few white marks soon after application.
Although this product is fragrance free, it has an extremely delicate scent (possibly the evening primrose oil) which disappears soon after application. I usually get very sore eyes when I use suncream, but since using this one have concluded it must be fragrances added to suncream as I have no more sore eyes!
Overall, definitely a suncream I would recommend for people with sensitive skin or those who burn easily. I spent 2 hours outside on a cloudless day and didn’t get at all burnt.
- Pros: Natural, high SPF suncream.
- Cons: Can leave skin a bit shiney and pale.
